The Story Behind The Photo...
Have you ever faced a moment where you had to choose between fear and faith?
I stood on the sandy shore of Redfish Lake, waiting for the sun to set over the Sawtooth Mountains. The evening air was crisp and still, carrying the scent of pine and the cold, clean breath of the alpine wilderness. This place, known as the “jewel of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area,” has drawn travelers since the 1920s to find rest at the historic Redfish Lake Lodge.
ut photographing this scene was a battle against my own doubts. The water was perfectly still, a mirror waiting for the mountains, but the light was changing fast. I worried that the wind would pick up and shatter the reflection, or that the clouds would block the sunseet I had envisioned. It’s easy to feel small when staring at such jagged, towering peaks.
As the last light touched the tips of the mountains, turning them a soft lavender, I saw an old piece of driftwood resting on the shore. It looked weathered, beaten by storms, yet still standing strong. In that moment, the words of Joshua 1:9 echoed in my heart: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”.
I clicked the shutter.
That photo became more than just a beautiful landscape. It became a reminder that no matter how big the mountains in front of us seem, we are never facing them alone. The stillness of the water and the strength of the mountains reflect the peace that comes when we trust the One who made them.
